Voices for Children of Broward County Elects New Chair of the Board of Directors

Arielle Capuano, Esq., of Levinson & Capuano, LLC, was elected Chair of the Board of Directors for Voices for Children of Broward County, a local nonprofit organization whose mission is to ensure that every abused, neglected and abandoned child in Broward County has a courtappointed Guardian ad Litem and that financial resources are available for each child’s accompanying health, educational, and social needs.

Arielle follows in the footsteps of Immediate Past Board Chair, Amy Goldin, Esq., of Amy H. Goldin, P.A., who founded Voices for Children of Broward County in 2011, put together a team of leadership to bring it to life and grow it, and then administered and directed the organization for four years, selflessly performing any function and playing any role needed. Amy provided a vision and led Voices to become a mature organization with the vitality to move on from strength to strength. Due to the efforts of Amy Goldin and the board members, volunteers, staff and donors who supported her vision, thousands of disadvantaged children have been served.

Arielle has been involved with Voices since 2011, serving as a volunteer, event co-chair for all three annual “Soaring for Children” events, board member, and executive committee member. With a strong commitment to our community’s children, Arielle is eager to take Voices to the next level, working with the Board of Directors, Executive Director, Erica Herman, and the many donors, partners and volunteers who support Voices. Voices is part of a unique collaboration with the 17th Judicial Circuit Guardian ad Litem Program with the mission to ensure that every abused, neglected and abandoned child in Broward County has a court-appointed Guardian ad Litem and that financial resources are available for each child’s accompanying health, educational, and social needs. With the goal to work with every child that has an open and active dependency court case, to meet each of his or her essential needs during this transitional period and to give the child a voice throughout the entire court proceedings by appointing him or her with a volunteer Guardian ad Litem.

Since 2011, Voices has been investing in the lives of young people who have faced the deep wounds from a crisis of parenting. In helping them to secure the basic life needs, essential education, and social experiences they equally deserve, we are ensuring that each young person in the care of the State, in Broward County, discovers their own resilience and strength. Voices is committed to leveling the playing field for youth in the dependency system, so that every child is included, has an opportunities to prosper in, and contribute to society.

The Guardian Ad Litem Program, GALP, advocates for the best interest of the children alleged to be abused, abandoned, or neglected who are involved in court proceedings. The program uses a team approach to advocate for the best interests of the children. Utilizing lay volunteers, staff child advocate coordinators and staff attorneys the program collects comprehensive information about the child and family, attend hearings, and take steps to ensure the child’s voice is heard. The GALP is often the only voice, consistently advocating for the child.
