Welcome All Students - Study Abroad and Change Your World!
It’s never too early to look ahead to a summer semester abroad. The International and Comparative Law Programs in Room RDB 2062 have all the information you need. Work hard so you get at least a 2.0 GPA — study abroad programs require at least that plus good standing and a completed 1L year.
FIU’s College of Law Study Abroad Program Summer 2007 in Spain was a great success!
Third-seven students traveled over 8,000 miles to the Spanish city of Sevilla to study. It was a diverse group from FIU, University of Baltimore, Texas Tech University Law School, Franklin Pierce Law School, Florida Coastal Law School, Florida State University Law School, New York Law School, and University of Buffalo Law School. An additional 3 students from the Universidad de Seville joined the program.
Three courses were offered in the program and were co-taught by both FIU and Universidad de Sevilla faculty giving students a thoroughly comparative perspective on the course materials. Summer 2007 courses were:
Comparative Constitutional Law exploring the meaning and reach of constitutional law by comparing the approach of the United States with that of other countries.
European Union Law providing an overview of the European Union, with a focus on the constitutional, economic, and institutional aspects of the Union.
International Trade Law & Policy, a comprehensive introduction to the legal framework for the international regulation of trade in goods.
The courses also took students outside the classroom. They attended on-site visits to the Cámara de Comercio and Tribunal Mercantil on the private law side. They visited the Parlamento de Andalucia as well as the Tribunal Constitucional and the Congreso de los Diputados, the last two during a group trip to Madrid.
Despite their workload, the students traveled throughout Europe and enjoyed site-seeing in Spain. Sevilla, itself, is a beautiful city known for its tapas, music, bars, and clubs.
The FIU Study Abroad Program is not only affordable but a great way to improve your Spanish, learn about a new law system and culture, and have a chance to study law outside the United States.
