Miguel Angel Adame
Professor of Law of the Universidad de Sevilla School of Law, Department of Private Law and Private International Law

Professor Adame is a graduate of the Universidad de Sevilla, obtaining both his law degree (1989) and his doctorate in law (1994, cum laude). He is also a graduate of the LL.M. program (1997) of the University of Virginia School of Law and is admitted to practice law in the State of New York. He is the author of several books and articles in the fields of business law, environmental law and tax law. Professor Adame is a regular consultant on projects of law reform in Russia, Mongolia, Kyrgyzstan, Ukraine and Bosnia-Herzegovina. He is fluent in English, Spanish and French.

Matthew Downs
Professor of Law and Director of the Law Library

Professor Downs (B.A., Houghton College, J.D., Pepperdine University School of Law
M.S.L.S., California State University at Fullerton, LL.M. in European Studies, magna cum laude, Katholieke Universiteit Leuven, Belgium) has over 25 years of experience as a law librarian, professor and academic administrator. He comes to FIU from the William Mitchell College of Law, where he was Professor of Law and Vice Dean for Academic Affairs, overseeing the law library and all other academic and student services programs. He has lectured widely on international, human rights and trade law topics, including programs in Hungary, Thailand, China and the United Kingdom. In the summer of 2003 and 2004 he lectured at the European Law Student Association's summer program on Human Rights, held in Dubrovnik, Croatia.  He completed graduate law studies focusing on the law of the European Union, earning an LL.M. magna cum laude from Katholieke Universiteit Leuven in Belgium. In the past, Professor Downs has taught European Union Law, Business Associations, International Business Transactions, and is now teaching Property Law.

Eulalia W. Petit de Gabriel

Professor Eulalia W. Petit de Gabriel graduated from University of Sevilla where she received her law degree and then later continued and in 1999 received her PhD. in law. Her thesis was on the History of Humanitarian Aspects in International Law. She also has a Diploma cum laude from the Academy of International Law (The Hague). Professor Petit speaks English, French and Spanish. She is currently the Director of International Relations for the University of Seville. She has taught Public International Law, European Union Law and International Relations in several masters, national and international and Ph.D. programs throughout the world. Dr. Petit de Gabriel has authored more than 15 publications.

Marycruz Arcos Vargas
Professor of Law and Vice Dean of Institutional and International Relations

Professor Arcos Vargas is a graduate of the Universidad de Sevilla, obtaining both a law degree and a doctorate in law in 1991.  She has a degree in Upper Level European Studies from College d’Europe (Brussels, Belgium). She has been a researcher at the European Institute of Florence. She is a Professor of Public International Law and International Relations since 1994, Director of the “European Integration” Research Group and Course Coordinator of Community Law at the university for over ten years.  She is the author of several publications on European Union Law.

Beatriz Campuzano Díaz
Vice Dean of International and InstitutionalRelations
Universidad de Sevilla School of Law

Professor Campuzano received her PhD in Law from the University of Seville. Her research is centered on International Commercial Law.  She has published two books:  Consequences of the Vienna Convention of 11 April 1980 in the Field of International Sale of Goods (2000) and International Aspects of Insolvency Proceedings (2004). She has also carried out research on International Civil Procedural Law and International Family Law, areas in which she has published numerous books, chapters, articles and reviews. She teaches Private International Law at the University since 1995. She has been awarded the Teaching Excellence Award in the academic courses 2000/2001, 2002/2003, 2003/2004 and 2005/2006. She has been the main researcher of several projects, financed by the European Commission, on “Judicial Cooperation in Civil Matters.” Professor Campuzano is a research member of Research and Development Projects of the Spanish Ministry of Education and Science and of Projects of the Spanish International Cooperation Agency (AECI).

Daniel García San José
Professor of Law, Universidad de Sevilla School of Law

Professor Daniel García San José graduated from Universidad de Sevilla with a Bachelor Degree in Law and in 1999 received his PhD in law with Distinction.  He is presently a Professor of International Law and International Relations.  His research is on the European Union: process of European integration, main bodies, European Law and case law.  He speaks Spanish, English and French fluently and has a basic understanding of German. He is a well published scholar on several subjects including environmental protection and the European Convention on Human Rights, enforcing human rights regarding the environment in Europe, The European Committee for the Prevention of Torture, and the right to freedom of association including the right to form and join trade unions.

Scott F. Norberg
Professor of Law, Florida International University College of Law

Professor Norberg has over 15 years of experience as a law school professor and administrator. Before coming to FIU in 2001, he taught at the University of California, Hastings College of the Law, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and the Mississippi College Law School, where he also served for three years as associate dean for academic affairs. Professor Norberg was the founding Associate Dean for Academic Affairs at the FIU College of Law, serving from 2001-2005, in which position he was primarily responsible for development of the academic program and ABA accreditation matters. The recipient of several teaching awards, Professor Norberg teaches in the areas of contracts, sales, commercial and bankruptcy law. He has published numerous articles, and recently completed a national empirical study of the consumer bankruptcy system funded by grants from the National Conference of Bankruptcy Judges and the American Bankruptcy Institute. His articles have been frequently cited by courts and commentators, including by the United States Supreme Court. Professor Norberg also is a frequent speaker at legal education programs for bankruptcy judges and lawyers, including the Federal Judicial Center’s Workshops for Bankruptcy Judges. He practiced commercial litigation for six years with Troutman Sanders in Atlanta, Georgia, before entering the academy. He obtained both his B.A. (in English) and his J.D. (with honors) at the University of North Carolina. His law school honors included N.C. Law Review and Order of the Coif.
