Miami (June 20, 2011) – FIU Law faculty Professor Thomas E. Baker has been selected by the Board of Directors of the American Bar Foundation as a Fellow. This distinguished honor and selection recognizes a lawyer whose professional, public and private career has demonstrated outstanding dedication to the welfare of the community, the traditions of the profession and the maintenance and advancement of the objectives of the American Bar Association.

“Professor Baker’s selection is nothing less than a lifetime achievement award. His dedication to scholarship and to his students continues to earn him recognition and praise. We are honored to include him among our distinguished faculty,” said Dean R. Alexander Acosta.

Professor Baker is a member of the founding faculty of the FIU College of Law. He is a nationally-recognized constitutionalist who has authored 14 books (including two leading casebooks) and more than 200 scholarly articles. He also is a popular and respected teacher who has won numerous teaching awards over his three decades of law teaching.

Established in 1955, the Fellows support the research of the American Bar Foundation through their annual contributions and sponsor seminars and events of direct relevance to leaders of the legal profession. Membership in the Fellows is limited to one third of one percent of lawyers licensed to practice in each jurisdiction. Members are nominated by Fellows in their jurisdiction and elected by the Board of the American Bar Foundation.
