Biography : JOE MATTHEWS is a Wesley Sturges Honor Scholar. He graduated first in his class from the University of Miami School of Law in 1977, where he was an editor of the Law Review. He is past President of the Dade County Trial Lawyers Association. He is a Fellow of the International Academy of Trial Lawyers and is also a past Chairman of the Commercial Litigation Sections of both the Association of Trial Lawyers of America and the Academy of Florida Trial Lawyers . He served as a Supreme Court appointee to The Florida Board of Bar Examiners. Mr. Matthews is board certified as a civil trial lawyer by The Florida Bar. He has lectured extensively on various areas of law, technology, trial skills and procedures and ethics to local, state, and national bar associations. He is a past member of the adjunct faculty at the University of Miami Law School, and was the Associate Editor of the Commercial Section for The Journal of the Academy of Florida Trial Lawyers . In 1989, Mr. Matthews served as Special Counsel to United States Senator Bob Graham. He joined Colson Hicks Edison later that year.

Mr. Matthews specializes in commercial, intellectual property, fraud, defamation and other business torts, insurance, construction and professional liability litigation.

He has been an active participant in the arbitration process as an advocate and an arbitrator. He is a member of the American Arbitration Association and the London Court of International Arbitration, as well as the AAA's panel of arbitrators for Large and Complex Cases.
