Biography:
Born in Havana , Cuba , Cristina Mendoza completed her Juris Doctor degree at the University of Miami in 1982, graduating with honors. She started her professional career as a law clerk for U.S. Federal Judge William M. Hoeveler and later for Judge Peter Fay of the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals in Miami . In 1984, she joined the law firm of Murai, Wald, Biondo, Moreno as an Associate, and was promoted to Partner four years later. In 1990, and for the next eight years, Cristina was Knight-Ridder's Senior Vice President and General Counsel, overseeing legal affairs for the corporate parent and its thirty-five newspapers.
Prior to joining FIU, Cristina was Senior Vice President, Regional General Counsel and Vice President for Human Resources for Visa Latin America, where she was in charge of legal matters and human resources for the entire Region.
Cristina has four children and four grandchildren and is involved in numerous community activities.
