Health Law and Policy Clinic’s hosts first Affordable Care Act ‘Get Covered’ workshop

More than 30 participants attended the College of Law’s Health Law and Policy Clinic’s first Affordable Care Act ‘Get Covered’ workshop. The Health Law Clinic – a medical-legal partnership with the College of Medicine’s Green Family Foundation Neighborhood HELP™ program – together with Get Covered Florida and the Epilepsy Foundation of Florida used the opportunity to inform students and their families about their health coverage options through the new Health Insurance Marketplace, which opened for enrollment on October 1, 2013.

Law students Cinthya Beato, Kelly Kearns, Markus Kamberger, Alan Pena and Allan Zullinger, and medical student Nicole Colwell, joined Affordable Care Act navigators from Catalyst Miami, the Epilepsy Foundation, and Cognosante. The law and medical students educated attendees on local safety net health care access resources. Attendees were also able to sit down with a navigator to discuss their specific health and insurance needs.

Stay tuned – the Health Law Clinic will be planning additional ‘Get Covered’ workshops during the upcoming spring semester.
