Letter From President Modesto A. Maidique
From the time I became president of Florida International University more than 20 years ago, I dreamed of building a University which had the academic strength and stature that could serve as a base to establish a first rank law school. In the year 2000, the Florida legislature and Governor Jeb Bush acknowledged the strength of our University and the critical need for a public law school in South Florida when they authorized the creation of the Florida International University College of Law. It is against this backdrop that we invite applications for what is becoming one of America's finest law schools.
I am proud of all the fine schools and colleges which comprise Florida International University, of an outstanding University faculty, eager and energetic students, and its accomplished 100,000- strong alumni body. Law is an historic professional discipline whose students and practitioners are touched by disciplines studied throughout the University. The College of Law is an important component of our exciting University community.
I am honored to have had Leonard Strickman become the founding dean of the College of Law. He is an outstanding teacher and scholar - a nationally respected legal educator and an experienced law school dean. He has already led the law school to fast track, American Bar Association Full accreditation, just the first of many notable achievements which I am confident will follow.
An outstanding faculty and leadership team is in place for the College of Law. The faculty has planned an academic program that takes special advantage of our exciting Miami location and the opportunities it provides to train our students in the global legal perspectives that will be important to the practice of law in the 21st century.
As you consider law schools, I urge you to consider applying to the College of Law
