Professor Gabilondo has served in government finance and academic
positions, both domestically and abroad. His government service
includes Attorney-Advisor in the U.S. Department of the Treasury,
where he advised on federal finance, the President's Working Group
on Financial Markets, and an Argentine debt swap; Attorney-Advisor
for the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, where he conducted
market structure and risk management inspections of securities markets;
Capital Markets Analyst in the Office of the Comptroller of the
Currency, where he advised on capital markets, liquidity risk, and
bank funding; and Attorney in the World Bank's Legal Department,
where he advised the Bank on domestic and foreign suits involving
treaty-based immunities. In academia, he has taught comparative
law as a Visiting Professor at the Universidad Autónoma de
Barcelona. He comes to FIU from his position as an Assistant Professor
at Albany Law School. Professor Gabilondo teaches federal income
tax, corporate and partnership tax, corporate finance, international
finance, and mergers and acquisitions .
His research interests include the law of entity and sovereign liquidity
and feminist analyses of heterosexuality. He comments regularly in Spanish-language
media on Cuban legal issues and serves as faculty co-advisor to
the Cuban American Law Society and the Stonewall Legal Alliance. Professor Gabilondo was voted 2005 Teacher of the Year.
