Professor Degnan is a Visiting Assistant Professor in the Legal Skills & Values Program. After receiving a B.A. in International Relations from Brown University, cum laude, Professor Degnan received her J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center, where she was a member of the Georgetown Journal of Gender and the Law and the Alternative Dispute Resolution Team of the Barrister’s Council. After law school, Professor Degnan practiced for over seven years in the areas of real estate, land use, corporate law and commercial litigation, with significant emphasis on creditors’ rights and commercial foreclosure actions. She was a senior associate at Shutts & Bowen, LLP, where she was a member of both the Creditors’ Rights and Bankruptcy and the Real Estate practice groups. She also served as Associate General Counsel to a publicly listed corporation. Professor Degnan has extensive experience representing corporate and individual clients in all aspects of the real estate industry, including acquisitions & dispositions, real estate development and financing, loan workouts and modifications, commercial foreclosures, corporate governance and regulatory matters, leasing and resort management. She is admitted to practice in Florida and in Massachusetts.
