Adjunct professor John Little (along with adjunct professor Shahrzad Emami) directs the Small Business Clinic at the FIU College of Law. He received his B.A. Degree from the University of Alabama in 1969. Before attending law school he served as a Peace Corps volunteer in West Africa. He received his J.D. degree from Gonzaga University School of Law in 1978.
Upon graduation he was awarded a two year “community lawyering” fellowship through Howard University and was assigned to a small legal services program in north Alabama where he created a project that engaged leaders of low income communities in a process of devising and implementing strategies to begin reversing the downward spiral of social and economic conditions.
Upon completion of the fellowship he worked for five years with Alabama Legal Services in their Tuscaloosa Regional Office. During that time he served numerous individual clients and helped to create a statewide community development initiative that provided assistance to nonprofit development corporations, rural farmer cooperatives, indian tribes, and small businesses.
In 1985 he began his present employment as a community economic development specialist attorney with Legal Services of Greater Miami, Inc. where he is responsible for providing legal assistance to nonprofit corporations that are engaged in affordable housing development, the creation of small businesses, and the economic revitalization of ethnically diverse low income neighborhoods.
He has experience in the legal aspects of real estate development, affordable housing, and small business issues.
