Dean
Leonard P. Strickman graduated from the Yale Law School where
he had been a member of the Board of Editors of the Yale Law
Journal. His first academic position was a member of the law
faculty at Boston University. He left there to serve as Minority
Counsel to the United States Senate Select Committee on Equal
Education Opportunity.
After
two years in that position, Dean Strickman returned to law teaching
at the Boston College Law School, where he served on the faculty
for nine years. He then became Dean and Professor at the Northern
Illinois University College of Law for nine years, during which
time he lead the law school from provisional to full accreditation
of the American Bar Association and to membership in the Association
of American Law Schools.
During
six of the eight years, he served as Dean of the University of
Arkansas School of Law, he also served as member of the Accreditation
Committee of the American Bar Association. During the decades
of the 1980s and 1990s, he also chaired fifteen accreditation
site visits for the ABA.
He
joined Florida International University in January, 2001, as
a professor and the founding dean of the FIU College of Law.
Dean Strickman and his wife, Danielle, have two children: Andrew,
who is a journalist and website developer in San Francisco; and
Tami, who is a lawyer and an Assistant State's Attorney in Chicago.
