The Appellate Advocacy/Moot Court team emphasizes the development of brief-writing and oral advocacy skills through a realistic appellate advocacy experience. Competitors participate in state, regional, national, and international competitions against other law students from across the nation and around the world. The competitions require students to write an appellate brief or memorial and then  argue the case in front to a three-judge panel (with the judges playing the role of justices on the United States Supreme Court or the International Court of Justice).

How to Join the Team:

Eligibility: To join the Appellate Advocacy/Moot Court team, you must be a FIU College of Law student in good standing and either a 2L full-time student or a 3L part-time student (completion of LSV I and LSV II or the equivalent is also a prerequisite).

Internal Competition: To become a member, you must participate in the annual Board of Advocates Intramural Appellate Advocacy Competition held each year.

Selection to the Appellate Advocacy Team:
After the completion of the annual Board of Advocates Internal Appellate Advocacy Competition, a faculty-student selection committee choose the team from the student participants in the Intramural Appellate Advocacy Competition.

The provisions within this section may be supplemented by guidelines and policies followed by the Appellate Advocacy/Moot Court team and its Faculty Advisor (s).
