Law Library Awarded National Endowment for Humanities Grant

MIAMI (December 12, 2011) — The FIU College of Law library has been awarded a prestigious grant by the National Endowment for the Humanities. The grant will allow for the preservation and care of a 6,000 volume Mario Diaz Cruz Collection donated to the Law Library by the Rainforth Foundation. This invaluable collection contains a variety of historic Cuban legal materials as well as legislation and jurisprudence from several countries in Latin America as well as Spain, France and Italy.

Professor Hannibal Travis to deliver remarks at the Latin American Public Policy Forum

MIAMI (December 6, 2011) – Professor Hannibal Travis will address the Latin American Public Policy Forum on Internet, E-commerce and Mobile Technologies and will discuss safe harbors for Internet service providers against copyright infringement claims under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act of 1998.  Also speaking at the forum were members of the in-house counsel departments for Latin America of Yahoo! and Google.

The event will take place on Tuesday, December 6 at the Four Season on Brickell Avenue in Miami, Florida.

FIU Law Negotiations Team Advances to National Finals

MIAMI (November 14, 2011) — The FIU Law Negotiations Team advances to ABA National Negotiation Competition Final Rounds in New Orleans this coming February.

After an excellent performance at the ABA National Negotiation Competition Regional Rounds in North Carolina this past weekend, law students Maria Pradilla and Joe Glace will compete in the ABA Final Rounds in February 2012. The FIU teams competed in five negotiation rounds among 28 teams from law schools in North Carolina, South Carolina, Florida and Georgia.

FIU College of Law hosts Citizenship Drive

Law students help those eligible for naturalization complete forms

WHAT: The Florida International University College of Law will be hosting a Citizenship Drive to help individuals eligible to apply for U.S. citizenship complete their N-400 naturalization forms. Under the supervision of Clinical Professor Juan Gomez, law students in the Carlos A. Costa Immigration and Human Rights Clinic will conduct the one-day drive. The event is part of a series of drives the College of Law is organizing for its Citizenship Project.

FIU Law also will host two citizenship exam review sessions during the drive. The sessions will be led by Miami-Dade County Public Schools instructors with support from FIU Honors College students.
