The prestigious list of Super Lawyers Rising Stars of 2013, includes 18 alumni from the Florida International University College of Law. Super Lawyers is a nationwide rating service of outstanding lawyers from more than 70 practice areas who have attained a high degree of peer recognition and professional achievement.
Super Lawyers Rising Stars are chosen by the most recent group of Super Lawyers, who nominate attorneys they have personally observed in action, either as opposing or co-counsel, or through first-hand courtroom experience.
To qualify as a Rising Star, a lawyer must be under the age of 40 or practicing for less than 10 years. No more than 2.5 percent of the lawyers in the state are named to the list.
FIU Law has had alumni on the list of Rising Stars in past years on multiple occasions, and several alumni honored this year have been previously selected. Repeat selectees this year include Gaspar Forteza, Kim R. Greenberg, Ivan J. Parron, Lucia V. Pazos, and Eduardo F. Rodriguez. Joining the list for the first time are Rafael F. Alonso, Denise L. Ben-David, Susan Capote, George Castrataro, Daniel Cervantes, Daniel Cruz, Lourdes De Armas-Suarez, Mendy Halberstam, Brian Karpf, Sue-Ann Robinson Caddy, Rick Ruz, Cristina M. Suárez, and Ari A. Sweetbaum.
The Florida Rising Star annual selections are made using a rigorous multi-phased process that includes a statewide survey of lawyers, and an independent research evaluation of candidates by the research team at Super Lawyers. The Rising Stars lists are published nationwide in Super Lawyers magazines and in leading city and regional magazines.
